Our Founding Fathers

I started writing the lyrics to this song when I was in college but I tend to get distracted so I finished them up about a year ago and had Yeremy Turcios write the accompaniment to my melody/lyrics.  He did an amazing job and got it done sooo fast.  He is an amazing pianist.  So then I was supposed to record my vocals....which took me longer than it should have.  Having a baby in about 3 months so I decided I better get it done before I run out of time and before my insides get too squished to sing very well.  haha.  Anyway, I will hopefully have the  recording up on my website soon!!  Excited to finally have a copy made.  that's all for now :)

Gratitude

I'm about as good at writing in my journal as I am at blogging...which means not very good.  Not long ago, I decided to start a gratitude book.  It's just a simple spiral bound notebook that I can open when I remember and write down what I'm grateful for.  My entries are often simple and short, but I find that it's easier to take 1 minute and jot down the things that made me smile that day instead of 10-30 minutes of journal writing (because when I open my journal and realize that the last time I wrote was 3-6 months ago, I feel like I have to catch up, and then I get overwhelmed and give up). So, although I don't get my whole life's story written down, at least I can remember the good things in life, and I find that I'm better at writing things down - like what my daughter did to make me smile, or that my husband gave me a much needed foot rub without me even asking!!! How awesome is that.  It helps me ingrain those things in my brain, so in my moments of weakness I can remember those and realize how blessed I really am.  Maybe that's how my blogging should go too.  haha.  Then maybe I will post more often.

Remember that life is beautiful and it's even better when we fill it with love, gratitude and smiles,

It's been way too long

Wow, it's been a really long time since I've posted last.  We have been putting in our yard and had a wedding reception at our house, so I put my music on hold for a while.  But, now I'm back in the game.  Every time I start writing and singing again, I realize how much I've missed it and the amazing effect that music has on my life.  My goal for this year is to re-record the songs on my website, get a good recording of Our Founding Fathers, and have enough lyrics/songs for a CD.  Probably won't have the CD done by the end of the year, but hopefully all the lyrics.  We are expecting another addition to our family in January, so I'm hoping to get the lyrics done before another break in my music while I focus on the new little one for a while.

As I was looking at some of my old lyrics for song inspiration earlier this year, I found some thoughts I'd written too, and I wanted to share them 'cause sometimes its good to remember things we've learned in the past.

One is: no matter what your mind may think - your heart knows best.   - I love this one because so often our brain tells us one thing, but we need to take time and listen to our hearts - our real desires and promptings.  In my experience - the heart always knows best.

The other is: If you can't be happy in the situation you are in now, how do you know that you will be happy in any other situation?  Make your own happiness.   -(that being said, there are abusive situations that you should not be in - get out and make your own happiness) So often we think, "I'll be happy when..." but honestly if you can't be happy now, you are not going to be happy when whatever it is happens.  We have to choose each and every day to be happy.  We have to choose whether or not we are going to let other's decisions bring us down because the person that it hurts the most when we are sad or angry is ourselves.  We loose out on happiness and all that it brings with it.  We loose out on opportunities and love.  Joy and happiness allow us to serve others, to see the world in a better light, and to enjoy every moment.

Time and Place

It has been way too long since I've written.  This winter has been a hard one for us in that it seems like we are all sick every other week...thus it has taken a toll on my blogging (among other things).  Haha.  Can't wait for spring!!  It has also taken it's toll on my music - hard to sing when you are sick.  But I am excited for spring, more sunshine and more enthusiasm.

I am a firm believer that there is a time and place for everything in our lives and that if God doesn't want something to happen when we want it to happen - it wont happen until He is ready.  I don't know if that makes sense - but I feel like there is a time and place for everything and unless we are prepared and ready - in the way God wants us to be - we aren't ready for the next step in our lives no matter how much we want it.  A lot of times I want to know what is going to happen next, but I have realized that if I knew the future I wouldn't pay proper attention to the present.  I would probably be so worried about being ready for whatever was coming, that I wouldn't do the things that are the most important to prepare for whatever it is - like daily scripture study, prayer, pondering, and family.  I'm grateful for God's gentle reminders and His patience with my imperfections and my slow learning.  In short, I'm grateful for His tender mercies.
